When Surgery Fails: The Role of Transcatheter Closure in Treating Giant Coronary Cameral Fistulas

Giant coronary cameral fistulaeAnnouncing a new article publication for Cardiovascular Innovations and Applications journal. This article describes the successful transcatheter closure of a giant coronary cameral fistula in an infant after two unsuccessful surgical attempts.

The patient, a 4-month-old infant with severe heart failure symptoms, was diagnosed with a large fistula connecting the left anterior descending coronary artery to the right ventricle. After surgical ligation failed due to recanalization and high-flow physiology, clinicians adopted a transcatheter rescue strategy.

Using advanced multimodal imaging and a Konar multifunctional occluder device, the team successfully closed the fistula without compromising coronary blood flow. The patient showed rapid clinical improvement, with resolution of heart failure symptoms and significant weight gain within two weeks.

The case highlights the potential of transcatheter closure as an effective alternative when surgical repair of complex coronary fistulas is unsuccessful.
