Emerging Novel Biomarkers in Acute Coronary Syndrome Management: Insights and Future Directions

Announcing a new article publication for Cardiovascular Innovations and Applications journal.   Acute coronary syndrome (ACS), a primary manifestation of coronary artery disease (CAD), remains a leading cause of global mortality, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Despite advances in diagnostics and therapy, accurate early risk stratification of ACS remains challenging. Traditional biomarkers such as cardiac troponins and CK-MB are essential for diagnosis but do not capture the full complexity of disease severity, particularly in cases involving inflammation, endothelial dysfunction and plaque instability. This review highlights emerging evidence regarding the roles of inflammatory cytokines and novel biomarkers in ACS pathophysiology, diagnosis and prognostication.

Exploring Biomarkers for Early Diagnosis of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms

Announcing a new article publication for Cardiovascular Innovations and Applications journal examines recent advances in circulating biomarkers for the early diagnosis and risk assessment of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), a largely asymptomatic but potentially life-threatening vascular condition. The authors describe how pathological processes underlying AAA—such as inflammation, vascular smooth muscle cell dysfunction, extracellular matrix degradation, and thrombosis—release measurable molecular signals into the bloodstream, creating opportunities to improve detection beyond imaging alone.

Extracellular Vesicle-Derived miRNA in Acute Myocardial Infarction

Announcing a new article publication for Cardiovascular Innovations and Applications journal.  EV-miRNA-based precision diagnostics and targeted therapeutic strategies represent the frontier of personalized medicine. By integrating multi-omics data, developing highly sensitive molecular detection platforms, and advancing intelligent delivery systems, the continuum of prevention and management from Acute Myocardial Infarction to heart failure is progressively evolving into a comprehensive, multi-dimensional precision paradigm. This progress holds great promise for shifting clinical practice from population-based empirical treatments towards individualized, mechanism-driven therapies.

A Panel of Blood Biomarkers for the Diagnosis of Transient Ischemic Attacks

Announcing a new article publication for Cardiovascular Innovations and Applications journal. Accurate diagnosis of transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) is challenging. This study was aimed at analyzing blood biomarkers to distinguish TIAs from mimics.

The levels of eight candidate biomarkers were measured in 234 patients with suspected TIA, 103 of whom had TIA and 131 of whom had mimics. We compared the groups, examined the effects of the biomarkers via logistic regression, compared models with likelihood ratio tests, assessed predictive accuracy with receiver operating characteristic analysis, and optimized cutoff values with the PanelomiX algorithm.
