KSCMS @ GW-ICC Joint Forum – Great Wall International Congress of Cardiology (GW-ICC) 2017 – Primary Prevention of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease – Focused on Korean Data

It has become a tradition for world renowned cardiology associations to send delegations to GW-ICC congresses. Cooperation with these international societies is not limited to their attendance at GW-ICC; GW-ICC also holds reciprocal academic sessions at the annual meetings of these eminent societies to introduce important Chinese academic research.

Primary Prevention of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease – Focused on Korean Data

Presenter: Sang-Ho Jo, Division of Cardiology, Department of Internal Medicine, Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital, Dongan-gu, Anyang-si, Gyeonggi-Do, South Korea.

Dr Jo discusses primary prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease focused on Korean data, concluding:

  • Primary prevention with aspirin and/or statins is beneficial in reducing both all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in uncomplicated hypertensive participants
  • Aspirin use for primary prevention should be highly individualized
  • Consider GI bleeding risk factors and personalize ASCVD risk assessment with 10-year ASCVD risk calculations
  • Testing with CAC and CAP might be helpful in risk prediction in low risk patients
  • Smoking cessation with/without drugs
  • Statin use in selected patients.
