ESC @ GW-ICC Joint Forum – Great Wall International Congress of Cardiology (GW-ICC) 2017- Preventive Cardiology ESC Congress 2017 Highlights

It has become a tradition for world renowned cardiology associations to send delegations to GW-ICC congresses.

Professor Jeroen J. Bax, President, European Society of Cardiology (ESC), Professor John Warner, President, American Heart Association (AHA), and Professor Mary N. Walsh, President, American College of Cardiology (ACC), led delegations attending the 28^th GW-ICC, to present latest international guidance, cutting-edge diagnosis and information on treatment with emerging technologies.

Cooperation with these international societies is not limited to their attendance at GW-ICC; GW-ICC also holds reciprocal academic sessions at the annual meetings of these eminent societies, for example GW-ICC @ ACC, GW-ICC @ AHA, and GW @ ESC, to introduce important Chinese academic research.

At the 28^th GW-ICC in 2017, the ESC @ GW-ICC Joint Forum, which was held over four sessions, focused on the highlights of 2017 ESC Congress, to introduce the latest guidance and discuss the latest developments of ESC images, heart disease, heart failure, STEMI and valve disease.

ESC Congress 2017 Highlights

This presentation covering highlights from preventive cardiology sessions at ESC 2017 discusses how:

• Links between saturated fats, carbohydrates and outcomes are still puzzling and more clarification is needed, including in guideline recommendations;
• Triple vascular screening on the population level seems effective in reducing all-cause mortality. Cost effectiveness indicates it is worthwhile implementing;
• CETP inhibition is a new LDL lowering medication with effect on CVD events;
• PCSK9 inhibition is safe, reduces plaque volume but does not change plaque composition.
