SCAI @ GW-ICC Joint Forum – Great Wall International Congress of Cardiology (GW-ICC) – The Watchman – Indications and Clinical Update

It has become a tradition for world renowned cardiology associations to send delegations to GW-ICC congresses.

Cooperation with these international societies is not limited to their attendance at GW-ICC; GW-ICC also holds reciprocal academic sessions at the annual meetings of these eminent societies, for example GW-ICC @ ACC, GW-ICC @ AHA, and GW @ ESC, to introduce important Chinese academic research.

At the 28th GW-ICC in 2017, the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) held a Joint Forum. A video of one of these 2017 sessions is now available to view on the GW-ICC YouTube channel:

The Watchman – Indications and Clinical Update

Presenter: Kwan S. Lee, MD, FACC, FSCAI, Professor of Cardiology, University of Arizona, AZ, USA.

In this presentation Professor Lee discusses how:

  • Left atrial occlusion with a Watchman device implanted with the appropriate training is safe;
  • The best data is for patients who can take short term warfarin;
  • There is reasonable registry data for patients who cannot take long term anticoagulation and a randomized trial is pending;
  • Cost is significant and cost efficacy will ultimately decide widespread use.

Further information on the 29th GW-ICC, to be held October 11th -14th, 2018, in Beijing, China, is available on the congress website:
